"We have fallen into the place where everything is music." -- Rumi
DevaDeva's Inspired by spiritual music from India and Ireland, Sean Johnson and Hans Gruenig navigate harmonic shores between East and West with lush soundscapes that invoke musical meditation and spiritual passion. A DevaDeva concert is a musical and poetic exploration of the human soul. We invite listeners to inhabit themselves as fully and as comfortably as possible -- opening to the potential of music and poetry to be spiritual catalysts for the dissolution of the boundaries that keep us from ourselves, the world, the divine, and wholeness. DevaDeva creates inspiring songs with a rich array of acoustic instruments, vocals, interactive chanting (kirtan), and mystical poetry including passages from Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Lao Tzu, Mirabai and others. Concert arrangements often include instruments such as sitar, tablas, harmonium, harp, guitar, tanpuras, gongs, chimes, and percussion. Their concerts evoke a wide range of spiritual moods and are capable of calming the soul with a gentle lullaby or blissfully raising the spirit with a powerful ecstatic chant.

I recommend that you hear and see the film to appreciate the power of their music." -Mark Morris, Film Director and Professor "The music played by Sean Johnson and Hans Gruenig at the outdoor Audubon Park labyrinth torch walk for peace led by The Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco was superb. They played through their hearts and captivated those present. Their versatility and ability to move in and out of musical sounds from different regions of the globe was just right for this event and their sensitivity to walkers was appreciated." -Marilee Eaves "Hans and Sean's music is truly touching and inspirational. During the chanting session, I felt the music flowing through me, and felt like I was taken to a different place. I am also grateful for having had the chance to be exposed to different types of instruments, some of which I had never heard before."
